What is PCIT?
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for young children (typically ages 2.5 to 6) who struggle with frequent tantrums, aggression, defiance, or emotional regulation difficulties. PCIT uses live coaching by having a therapist observe the parent and child from a different room and provide immediate feedback through an earpiece worn by the caregiver.
PCIT is delivered in two phases: Child-Directed Interaction (CDI) and Parent-Directed Interaction (PDI).
